Koran Verse 9-11 Hoax
There has been a "Koran 9:1" email hoax spreading across the web for the past 3 years that says -in short- that the Koran, verse 9:11 predicts the rise of Osama Bin Laden and the attack on the USA. This is a Hoax, a lie and is intended to foster Christian & American fear. This hoax is abomination.
There has been a "Koran 9:1" email hoax spreading across the web for the past 3 years that says -in short- that the Koran, verse 9:11 predicts that the rise of Osama Bin Laden, the attack on the USA on 9-11, and the American responses attacking Afghanistan and Iraq. This is a Hoax, a lie and is intended to foster Christian & American fear, suspicion and hatred for the Koran and Muslims. This hoax is abomination.
Let's look at the facts. In standard editions of the Koran, Surah 9 (Al-Tawbah, or "Repentance") verse 11 reads as follows in most translations: "But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then they are your brothers in religion; and We detail the verses for a people who know."
This verse has absolutely nothing to do with building collapse, fire, planes, or modern political conflict. It is a verse encouraging reconciliation, community, and peace for those who turn away from hostility. The viral emails claiming that the verse speaks of a "son of Arabia" destroying an "eagle" or "towers" are entirely fabricated. They capitalize on lack of familiarity with the Islamic scripture to propagate xenophobia and fear.
As progressive Christians, we are called to be truth-tellers and peacemakers. We must actively counter falsehoods and stand in solidarity with our Muslim neighbors against hate and misinformation.
